A Wishlist

My birthday is in 11 days, but for the first time, I'm not excited about it. Maybe because it's on a Sunday. Maybe because I don't have any plans, aside from a fancy dinner whenever my brother is free. Maybe because I'm turning twenty-three and I'm sorry but twenty-three feels old. Really old. I feel perpetually sixteen. Maybe because this year hasn't been all that exciting and I feel locked into fear and anxiety.

But I'm going to try to dredge up some birthday spirit because I am a girl who loves birthdays. My birthday, your birthday, pet's birthdays...it's always a special day! I'm also super excited about my birthday dinner because I chose The Melting Pot this year, a fondue restaurant that I haven't been to in years. I'm already craving it!

Onto my wishlist! And since my birthday falls less than a month before Christmas, these are also things that worked their way onto my Christmas wishlist as well.

1. Nikon Coolpix S6000 14.2MP Digital Camera

As much as I would love a DSLR, I know I don't have the patience or time to figure out all the fancy bells and whistles. All I want is a simple point & shoot to give me decent shots. Plus, I can't see myself spending an insane amount of money on one of those cameras when I'm pretty much a pro at forgetting my camera at home. The camera I have now has some screwed-up settings, making my pictures either too light or too dark. I haven't been able to fix it and with a sweet crack in the screen, it's time to upgrade. (Plus, it's only a 7MP! Oh, the horror!)

2. Microsoft VX-5000 LifeCam Webcam

I'm really jealous of bloggers Skype-ing with each other and I know I need a webcam soon or else! Sadly, I bought my computer for it's cheap price and it didn't include a webcam. I bought one earlier this year, but the picture quality was horrid. This one sounds like it should work much better! And it's not too expensive!

3. A Weekend Trip to Orlando
My mom asked me, if I could do anything on my birthday, what would it be? I told her a weekend trip to Orlando. (Granted, a cruise would be nice. But it's the end of the semester. I have too much homework! Ha!) My dream would be to leave on Friday, check into the hotel and go shopping, go to Aquatica on Saturday and Sea World on Sunday. The last time we went to Orlando, I had a sprained/broken ankle so the trip wasn't much fun and we had to leave both theme parks early because of it. My fingers are crossed that my mom can get Saturday off work to go, but the chance is very slim. (Since she took off 8 weeks due to her broken elbow and has worked only half-days for the past month.)

4. A New Planner

Granted, I'm terrible at remembering to use my planner but it doesn't stop me from eyeing new ones all the time. This one, in particular, is my favorite from Etsy shop, Red Star INK

5. Garmin Forerunner 110

I would really like to be one of the cool kids and have a Garmin. While I'm just running to run and not timing my distances yet (I'd like to be able to run 3 miles completely first!), I think it's such a useful tool for runners. And I'm totally jealous of my mom, who has one. Again, I don't need any bells and whistles, just a watch to measure my distance and time and heart rate.

6. Ribbon Board
The walls of my room are suspiciously bare. I've lived in this apartment for over a year and still haven't put up any pictures or wall hangings or anything. I don't know why but this just occurred to me a few months ago and now I'm trying to find ways to add a little color to my walls. I think this would be a fun way to do that, even if it is a little college dormitory.

7. Lululemon Mesh Headwrap
I don't own any Lululemon products and actually just heard of the company in the past few months. I would love to just buy out their store because they have some cute stuff that I know would last and feel good during a run. And I found out they have an outlet store in Orlando. If #3 works out, there is definitely a trip there in my future!

I could probably add more onto my list, such as a car or a job with Shape magazine, but I'm trying to keep it in the reality zone. Somewhat.

What's on your wishlist this year?

  1. I REALLY want a Garmin too! I have a Bondiband head wrap that I like. Helps with the sweat and keeps my ears warm on the chilly runs. I'll have a wish list post coming soon. Well, for Christmas since I already got my birthday presents. Lol.

  2. How exciting! My birthday is in exactly two weeks (December 1st). :) I'll be twenty-two! Twenty-two feels so young to me, though. It might be because I'm married and it seems like no one takes you seriously when you're younger than thirty. (That could be mostly from working with older, male engineers, though.)

I'd love a Garmin! Using Nike+ on my ipod can be a hassle. A trip to Orlando would be nice, too.

I'm probably going to buy a point-and-shoot for my brother for Christmas. He's been asking for a camera, and most have 12megapixels, so they're really great cameras! I'm definitely a fan of Nikon! (I have a Nikon D5000 and a Nikon film camera.)

  3. First off, 23 is so young! I know you don't feel that way, but as someone who is turning 30 soon, 23 sounds pretty darn young and fabulous! :)

That's a great wish list. I need to put together a CHristmas list but there really isn't anything that particularly stands out!

  5. Oh to be 23 again!! You make an old lady feel older :p

lol when i was trolling for topics I thought maybe I can write about what I want for Christmas! But then I chickened out because half my modest readers /lurkers are my IRL friends and I feel like they might be pressured to buy me the stuff.

my wishlist: crockpot (gonna buy myself because of chilli cookoff on the 10th!), trip to boston and nyc (to see friends), trip out of country because I got my passport two years ago and haven't used it! gift certificates to favorite restaurants... :) list goes on.

  6. Can I suggest a camera other than a Nikon? We're on our 3rd Coolpix and I'm beginning to realize that compared to other cameras at the same price point it's just not as good =-( I'll be considering other brands when I make my next camera purchase.

  7. I'm going to be 22 forever.... ;) That's what I said about 21! Ha!

The ONLY thing on my Christmas wish list this year is a French Press! I want one so bad :)

  8. 23 is young, I promise. =) I turned 25 and stayed there forever so I can relate though.

Great list of things. Have you thought about making a photo board? I made one with one of my younger cousins once and it was a lot of fun.

  9. Turning 23 does feel a bit weird; I'm not too thrilled about turning 24 in January. But, I'll be excited about my birthday nonetheless.

This is an awesome list. I have a ribbon board - a Tinkerbell one, at that - and even mine doesn't look too dorm-ish. If you get one that looks sophisticated, like the one on your list, I think it would look fab. :)

  11. That ribbon board is gorgeous!

I pretty much have everything I want...but I do need a few electronics.

Headphones so I can play guitar anytime without disturbing others.

GPS would be nice...for roadtrips in new car.

    Wouldn't mind a dSLR!

I'm 23 next year. It does sound old doesn't it? The time just seems to fly by once you finish high school. Or is that just me?

  12. That is an awesome wish list! I do hope you become more excited about your birthday though- I hate the idea of getting older sometimes but I can't help but loving a day where I wake up and I know it's a special day for me :)

Things on my wish list... Definitely a semi-pro camera. I broke mine :(

  13. The Melting Pot is delicious! Good choice. I think birthdays post-21 are different. But it's a day to celebrate you! Take advantage.

On my wishlist is to hibernate through the impending winter.

  14. Happy Early Birthday! Although I do know how you feel... sometimes birthdays stress me out because I can't figure out what to do for them! Haha. But I like your idea of going to Orlando for the weekend. I hope you have a great day ; )

  17. Ooooh, can I have all of these things, too!? I'd especially love that camera and the trip to Orlando!

I hope you get some amazing things for your birthday... you deserve it!!

  18. I'm a photographer with a DSLR, but I LOVE my (purple!) Nikon Coolpix for running around--I think you'd love it too. I picked it because it was idiot proof-ish and durable. Those big cameras get heavy, you know!

My wishlist? I'm a nerd, but I'd love to restock my stationery collection and have some credit to buy some books for my iPad, which I never do because we're library fanatics.
