Ten on Tuesday (Vol. 20)

I realize I left you guys hanging about the accident itself. Basically, we're dealing with a lot of issues since my mom did walk away from it, without getting any names or information. (She was in such a state of shock, that thought didn't even cross her mind until later.) They did get out and tried to help, but have not reported the accident (although we have). And we could run into problems of medical bills, since her health insurance may not cover it. Like they say, when it rains, it pours.

On a lighter note, let's do a "Ten on Tuesday"!

1. Where did you go to college?

University of South Florida. And I'm still there. I'll be here forever, quite possibly.

2. What did you study?

Cute, you think I graduated! Ah, I wish. Currently, I'm studying Journalism & Media Studies. It's fun, although I'm more into the media and marketing side of things than journalism.

3. Was college really all that it was cracked up to be?

It's not anything like they show you in movies, that's for sure! No crazy parties, late night studying, or classes with a million students. I've had maybe 2 or 3 classes where I've had 50+ students. (I think this also has to do with the fact that I go to a smaller sized school, and took all my general ed courses in a community college.)

Still, I like college. I've been challenged and have had some amazing professors. I've met some great people and I just generally like learning. (Super nerd alert?)

4. How far were you from home?

My first year, I was about 30 miles away but then I started commuting my second and third year. When I changed my major from Education to Journalism, I switched over to their St. Petersburg campus, which is where I am now. It's only 10 miles away from where I live.

5. Did you have the same roommate all four years?

I had one roommate my first year and it was the worst living situation in the history of college dorm roommates. We were so different and barely spoke one word to each other. Thankfully, she moved onto another floor with another roommate by Spring semester so I had the dorm to myself for 5 whole months. It was great!

6. Where did you order food from at 2am?

I don't. I'm asleep at 2am. Always.

7. Did you date in college or were you tied down?

Here's a fun fact: I haven't been in a relationship since 2004, and really, we can't even call that a relationship. To answer your question, no.

8. Funniest drunk college moment?

I've never been drunk, actually. While it seems like it might be a fun time, I'm not too keen on the hangover the next morning. I try to avoid all possible situations of vomiting, thanks.

9. Did you make it to class on time?

Usually. Last semester was hard with my Tuesday/Thursday class since I got off work at 10:30am and had to rush to class, which was at 11. I usually made it a few minutes before, or a few minutes late. And since I like to be at least 10 minutes early to class, this was not acceptable for me.

10. What was your favorite class in college?

My favorite class has probably been Magazine Design. If you read my blog any time from January - May, you know how much stress it put on me. I went from feeling as if InDesign was going to take my life to feeling as if I totally owned that program. My first assignments were total duds but my magazine turned out so super awesome, that I have to credit it as my favorite. I've never learned so much, or put so much work into, one class.

  1. my first college roomate was insane - ugh. before i had met her and walked in there was a dog collar necklace with spikes and cans of gas and lighters and knives laying around. yeah.

  2. I was lucky enough to make it through college without a roommate. The girl I was supposed to room with my freshman year didn't end up coming to college so I immediately filed paperwork for a private room. I was then an RA for the next three years guaranteeing myself a private.

  3. My first roommates were GREAT!!! Why would the insurance not cover it??? That would be crazy-if you're hurt, you're hurt...that's why you have insurance!

  4. Thankfully I've never had a roommate! Unless of course you count L., and he's okay ;). I hope you guys get everything figured out!!!

  5. I love hearing stories of your college days. Mainly because I kiiiind of wish I could be there in the same program with you :)

  6. Ugh, I had a horrible college roommate experience my first year too. So much so that I HATED college and moved home the second year.

  7. I was lucky enough to have 3 great roommates in college! Well, my very first semester I had a TERRIBLE bitch roommate, but the other 3 of us hated her and she moved out. Then we got a new roommate who was great. I really should stay in better touch with my old roommates.

  8. I'm so sorry that you and your mom are having to deal with this- you're in my thoughts <3

And I love hearing about the US college experience, it totally fascinates me :)

  9. That magazine design class sounds really cool! Sometimes the most rewarding classes are the ones that are hard and stress you out

  10. I also had a horrible roommate freshman year. Seems like it is sort of a right of passage... Luckily, after that, all of my roommates were awesome!!

  11. ...My college experience was more like it shows in movies. There were crazy parties, a lot of late nights studying and reading, and some HUGE classes.

  12. Hey, I just found your blog through Emily's blog. This is fun! I had a great college experience, I was a crazy party girl (completely opposite from me in high school) and had so much fun...I met my (now) husband and he kind of reeled me in, although I still had lots of fun. Sometimes I miss college, but only sometimes! Can't wait to read more about you! :)

  13. Haha, I love your sarcasm in #1 and #2! You're too funny.

I had classes with millions of people in college! Quite a few of my electives were in auditoriums with hundreds of people. The shy girl in me liked them because I never had to participate and was never called on to answer questions. :)

I only had a roommate my freshman year, and we didn't have ANYTHING in common. I chose to get a single dorm for the rest of my college years!

  14. Well, I went to some of those crazy parties my first and second year. ha. Toga party? Yes. I was in a sorority at a HUGE school, so I guess that came with the territory.

All in all, college was all it's cracked up to be for me. I had a blast most the time!

  15. My roomie my freshman year (aka my bff at the time) decided that she wasn't going to come back for the second semester. She chose to tell me this on Christmas Day. I was devastated BUT I wound up paying $50 and got the room to myself for the second semester. I LOVED IT.

  16. I feel like I filled out this survey. Ha!

I switched from Education to Journalism. My favorite class was Newspaper Design (InDesign ROCKS!). I lived at home for most of my college career and then lived in a "student housing" which is a fancy name for apartments that were just like dorm rooms off campus.

  17. Oh, and I went to UNF, fyi. Another Florida girl. Jacksonville, born and raised. :)

  18. Okay, seriously? You go to USF IN St. Petersburg?! I was just down there last week! Well, I was staying in Hernando County (I'm actually from Pasco County/Hernando County), BUT I went to Tampa on Thursday and ate at The Cheesecake Factory at the mall. I'm bummed I didn't know you lived so close!

Comments make me all giddy with excitement.
