Today marks the end of the first month of 2011. Can you believe we’re already 31 days into the new year? (Only 10 months until the Christmas season!)
It’s been a busy month for me but in the past few weeks, I’ve just been happier. There’s nothing on the horizon to look forward to, just a lot of work, a lot of classes, and a lot of homework and studying. But I’m happy. I wake up happy (well, sleepy, but also happy) and there’s just a joy surrounding me. I hope I can keep up this good attitude because life is so much more fulfilling when you’re happy!
January had it’s share of ups and downs.
- I welcomed in the new year on my living room couch, watching the ball drop on TV with my dog and my mom. We had a quiet night at home, which was simply perfect.
- My mom completed her first-ever marathon. (I see at least one more in her future!)
- I began my last semester as an undergrad, which was filled with it’s own set of headaches.
- I spent my weekends buried in homework and cleaning, but feeling more relaxed and fulfilled than those weekends spent doing absolutely nothing.
- I had an eye appointment (my first since September 2008!) where I found out my eyes had indeed gotten worse and my astigmatism in my right eye was stronger than before, meaning contacts are probably not the best everyday option. (Even contacts used for astigmatism, they still jump around in my eye.)
- I completed my goals of getting on track with my eating (and subsequently lost almost 6 pounds this month!), as well as establishing a cleaning chart to help me get motivated to help out more around the house. And I disconnected 3 out of the 4 Saturdays in January.
- I did not complete my goals of establishing a budget or paying off my largest credit card (all I have to do is call the collection agency and set up the payment! Procrastinate, much?). I failed miserably on my water intake, although it did get a teensy bit better once I started back at Weight Watchers.
- Turning off electronics at 9pm? It didn’t happen once in January. I usually didn’t remember about this goal I set until 9:30pm or later, if I remembered at all!
- Tomorrow’s post will outline my goals for February, but I am going to “treat” myself to a new sports bra (or two!). The ones I’m wearing now I’ve had for about 3-4 years so I’m pretty sure it’s more of a necessity than anything. No Otterbox, though. Maybe next month!
How was the first month of January for you?
I am happy your first month went so well! I really need to follow your unplug advice. I tend to not use electronics at home at all during the week and when we are busy on weekends, but if we are not busy, I am on the computer (so is my husband). I think yesterday I was on from 3:00-6:00! And then again for an hour at night!
ReplyDeleteI also felt very happy in January. Joining a running club has made me feel so good. I really love making new friends. Have you ever thought about that (joining a club)? :)
Oh Stephany, this is amazing to hear! Especially that you're surrounded by a persistant joy- that's amazing! I'm trying to set myself into some new habits too and I've been pretty good at being consistent for January- lets both hope for a great February :)
ReplyDeleteI love hearing how happy you are lately, that's fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a happy, productive January to me!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes! Buying a new sports bra is necessary. I had the same one for a long time too and decided to treat myself to a few new ones. Best thing ever, no joke. I don't know how I was using such an old one for such a long time!
Looks like a good month to me! I sucked at drinking water this month too.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you've been happy. And good work with your goals! I borrowed the water 24 oz intake goal from you and surprise myself with how well i'm doing with it. Good call with starting off with 24oz and not the 64 oz. Yuck! What helps is getting a 24oz water bottle (or two) and just carrying it with you/having it at your desk at work.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
Always nice to start the year off on a good note!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you're happier and I think you did great on your goals! January was a decent month for me, it kind of flew by faster than I could blink!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your February goals :)
Congrats on meeting the majority of your goals; that is HUGE! So excited/happy for you :) January was a very busy, very happy month for me, with only a few downs but that's ok, I'll take it. It can't always be rosy cheeks & starry eyes, can it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE the Champion sports bras at Target; they are $15-$17 or so and have such cute colors + styles and they work :)
I think this is a great start into 2011!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!!
hey girl! You accomplished A LOT! :) Proud of you...this is gonna be a good year, I have a feeling!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing month for you! And you are rockin' those glasses!
ReplyDeleteHappy posts make me happy. :) I'd say that's a pretty good start to the year.
ReplyDeleteThis January for me has been amazing, basically showing me that this year is going to be a million times better than last year. I feel so much less stressed out and happier. It's awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't beat yourself up too much, you accomplished quite a bit this month! Keep up the good work!
The month went by way too fast. I think you had a pretty good month, if I do say so myself. I think overall happiness is a good thing and a huge success. This month I realized some of my coworkers whom I thought were my friends are indeed NOT my friends. Oh well. Onward to February!
ReplyDeletecongrats on the goals you did meet! That's stil amazing, even if you dont think so... I haven't kept a single resolution!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in February!
Awesome job this month!!! I can definitely tell you're a brighter person with an awesome attitude on life. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely get the Otterbox when you can... it's saved my iPhone numerous times :)
